GoodLyrics, BadLyrics

December 23, 2010 § 1 Comment

It’s time for a game, which I will ingeniously call ‘GoodLyrics BadLyrics’, and which is about good lyrics and bad lyrics. The glittering best and the abject worst.

Since it’s Christmas we will begin with the Good Stuff. And in order to truly reflect the spirit of Christmas they are going to have to be heart-wrending songs about misery.

Here is a juicy piece of romantic despair: Gunning Down Romance by Savage Garden. Lyrics here. An excerpt:

Love and other socially acceptable emotions are morphine
They’re morphine
Cleverly concealing primal urges often felt but rarely seen
Rarely seen
Love I beg you
Lift me up into that privileged point of view
The world of two
Love don’t leave me
Because I console myself that Hallmark cards are true
I really do

I’m gunning down romance
It never did a thing for me
But heartache and misery
Ain’t nothing but a tragedy

Now for some OneRepublic, All Fall Down. Lyrics.

Lost till you’re found
Swim till you drown
Know that we all fall down
Love till you hate
Strong till you break
Know that we all fall down

Wasn’t that festive.

Time for a laugh! Avril Lavigne, Falling Down. Lyrics. The best bit:

Some day I’ll live in a house
Etc., etc., etc.
But you know that’s not for now
and for now I’m falling

…Really?

Last one for today: Kelly Clarkson, My Life Would Suck Without You. The title says it all really, doesn’t it? Supposing you actually want to read the lyrics, here they are. I’d just stick with the following brief excerpt, however:

I know that I’ve got issues
But you’re pretty messed up too

And honestly,
My life (my life) would suck (would suck) without you.

Epic.

Any more good/bad lyrics to share? Go for it, and actually, the more hilariously terrible they are, the better. Christmas is depressing and I need more entertainment.

Oh music lyrics, where to even begin…

Today is Christmas Eve, so perhaps a nice and uplifting excerpt from one of my favourite songs, Life is Like a Boat:

I want you to know who I really am
I never thought I’d feel this way towards you
And if you ever need someone to come along
I will follow you, and keep you strong

And every time I see your face,
The oceans heave up to my heart
You make me wanna strain at the oars,
And soon I can see the shore

Rowing the boat of fate, the waves assault us one after the next
But that’s also a wonderful journey; they’re all wonderful journeys
